Got up at 2; flat was cold and I soon realised the gas had ran out.
I got ready and went to car. As soon as I took a mouthful of cold air in from outside the toothache came on with vengeance.
I sat till 3.30 and decided I could no longer take the pain.
I have endured same for over 8 months but now it was too severe.
I arrived at the dentist and informed the staff I needed an extraction.
The dentist was busy but agreed to fit me in, he asked which tooth was causing the problem I answered it could be one of three but I suspected the large molar at the back.
He examined it and said he couldn’t see anything wrong so he took an X ray.
I took my place in the waiting room while other patients went in.
When he saw me next he told me the tooth had an abcess inside the jaw and there was a problem with some bone growth, he agreed it needed to come out and gave me the injections.
About 5p.m. I was in the surgery and he got to grips with it.
The tooth didn’t want to move and made one helluva crack as he began work.
Sounded like a piece of wood being broken, he moved it from side to side and eventually drew it.
I emptied my mouth several times and then shook his hand and thanked him.
I drove home on a cloud of relief.
When I got home I made a cup of tea, had a smoke and then drank 4 bottles of chilled brown ale to wash away the taste.
Had a bit to eat, finishing off the pork pie I had left, watched some TV and went to bed, looking forward to a restful sleep.
That was the first time this year I’d had a cold beer and enjoyed it.
