Up at seven, bloody freezing, feel a bit rough. Had an hour or so revising. Father called at 9 a.m. to check I was up and by 10 we were on the road.
Bearing in mind it was Bank holiday Monday we took the scenic, longer route over the moors.
Only one hold up going thorough Pickering and we arrived in Filey about dinner time. Sure enough, as reported the shop is large and carries a vast amount of stock.
Apparently the shop sold 300 machines in the first year and 500 in the following one.
Only one machine out of the 800 had been returned and it was in the shop. I asked if any more were on order and the reply was…not till next year.
I looked at the machine and tried to envisage how on earth this machine was going to cope with a load of washing, it is small but not to be put off I basically told the guy to consider it sold if it passed the Engineer’s report the next day.
He agreed to knock off 10% if it was saleable and we left to await a phone call tomorrow.
We left Filey and travelled over the moors to Thirsk and onto Northallerton where we did a shop.
Heading in a homeward direction we stopped at a pub where I handed over the car keys and took the chance to sink a couple of swift pints, appreciated after 6 hours driving.
I reached home and together we lugged the shopping upstairs, I bade farewell and proceeded to hide the shopping in cupboards, freezer and fridge.
I now sit, pleasantly tired, typing this up, and waiting for the flat to reach a comfortable temperature before I indulge in a little T.V. before retiring.
I may not live my life to a schedule but I am aware of how much I am able to safely do.
Not an exciting day you may say; but for me to venture out is an event, I enjoy driving; enjoy the countryside and therefore such a day “floats my boat”.
I think, as I get older I try even harder to make even the most mundane actions bring pleasure.
I could have gone on the Internet and had the machine delivered in the next couple of days but where’s the fun in that, besides which I did want to see the goods prior to purchase.
