5 th June.
Tues 5 th June.
Morning arrives and I wake up ten minutes to nine feeling a lot better.
After breakfast, off to nearest fishing tackle shop for maggots a couple of pieces of gear and on my way again.
I arrived at what has always been my favourite pond, I was the only person there and so had choice of pegs.
Just as well because annoying breeze was rendering the majority of pegs unfishable to float.
I took all the tackle from the car and with the sound of an approaching car in my ears I headed for the most suitable peg.
The sound of the car stopped as it presumably drew alongside me.
I was within a couple of yards from the peg when my father’s voice called out.
I halted, I had been thinking to myself that the wind would probably change direction several times during the day thus the prospect of a day’s fishing settled on one peg seemed remote.
We decided to investigate another pond we had found on the last day of our previous holiday.
The water is on farmlands and access is gained by ways of on unkept, rough track.
We arrived,
Once again, first on scene, choice of peg.
I quickly set up my pole and began to set up a rod for Father, (a total Newbie!).
I then realised the reel was in fact knackered.
In the end I attached a pole rig to the end of a 13 ft. rod.
We eventually both got tackle into the water and began to get numerous bites from small fry despite using size 14 and 16 hooks.
Another angler, equipped for the water, using feeder methods to cover the far bank, soon to be rewarded with a 6 and half pound carp, joined us.
We realised we were ill equipped for the water but spend four hours in pleasant surroundings enjoying the intermittent sunshine and quiet.
I never got a moment’s peace.
Baiting and disgorging for two.
By three I had had enough and drove back to the club for the last hour’s drinking.
After tea we three, went to the W.M.C. for Bingo, such simple pleasures.
I was lucky enough to get a shout so expenses for night were covered.
Back to hotel, quick chocolate and bed for a well earned sleep for an aching body.
